The History of Tedia and Its Commitment to High-Purity Solvents
By Rozy Park, Daughter of Founders Moon and Elinora Park
In the 1960s, my father, Moon Park, arrived as a student in the United States from war-torn South Korea alone. He came not with capital or connections, but with resolve. He earned a master’s degree in chemical engineering at Tennessee Tech and later moved to Cincinnati for doctoral work. Along the way, he accepted a role as production manager at a local chemical company. It was a practical decision, but he was already thinking beyond it.
As his daughter, I grew up watching the quiet determination that defined him. He believed deeply in building something of his own. He wanted to create a company grounded in technical excellence, discipline, and long-term value.
He believed in the American Dream not as a slogan, but as something earned through sacrifice and persistence. That belief became Tedia.
Built on Sacrifice and Determination
Moon and my mother, Elinora, made a deliberate choice. They would live on his salary and save every dollar of hers as an operating room nurse until they had enough capital to start their own company. For years, they postponed comfort for possibility. When Tedia was founded, they did nearly everything themselves. They sourced raw materials, refined and distilled solvents, packaged products, managed regulatory requirements, and sold directly to customers. There was no infrastructure beyond their commitment. They learned by doing, building capability step by step.
The company’s name reflected both creativity and devotion. Moon combined tetra, meaning four, and media, meaning among, to create “Tedia,” or “among four.” At the time, our family consisted of Moon, Elinora, and their two daughters, me, Rozelia, and Regina. English was his second language, yet he delighted in language and wordplay. He was serious about his work, but never without warmth.
From the beginning, Tedia was personal.
Precision and Purity as a Philosophy
Moon was not interested in building just another chemical company. He was committed to manufacturing the purest solvents possible, using distillation techniques he had developed and refined through study and industry experience. He understood that in pharmaceutical and life sciences environments, precision is foundational. Solvent purity directly impacts reproducibility, analytical accuracy, and manufacturing consistency. Technical rigor was not optional. It was essential.
Moon’s partner in life and in work was his wife, Elinora. She gradually joined the company full-time bringing a discipline and resilience that sustained the company through its earliest challenges.
A Company That Valued People
Over time, Tedia became more than a solvent manufacturer. It became an economic engine for the people who worked there. Moon and Elinora believed in opportunity in practical terms. They valued dedication and initiative, and they built a culture that balanced accountability with humanity. Employees were
expected to work hard, but they were also supported. That balance became part of Tedia’s foundation.
Leadership Through Adversity
In 1989, Moon passed away from kidney disease. Elinora faced the difficult task of leading the company forward. Practical and steady, she brought on two business partners, Hoon Choi and Dr. Bala Nalliah, whose expertise complemented her own. Together, the three led Tedia for nearly 15 years. They learned continuously, made difficult decisions, strengthened customer relationships, and grew the company with focus and optimism. They were small and scrappy, but deeply committed to quality and service. Their sincerity earned trust, and that trust fueled growth.
The Evolution of High-Purity Solvent Manufacturing
Today, Tedia is a global manufacturer of high-purity solvents serving pharmaceutical manufacturing and life sciences industries worldwide.
With ISO 9001 certification, integrated enterprise systems, custom laboratory software, and manufacturing automation, Tedia supports workflows where consistency and reliability are critical. Tedia is known for its technical capability and its ability to purify complex materials to exacting specifications where even minor variability can impact outcomes.
As pharmaceutical innovation continues to accelerate, the demand for reliable solvent manufacturing partners has only grown. Tedia’s role has expanded alongside developments in advanced therapeutics, including oligonucleotide and peptide workflows that require uncompromising material control.
The Spirit That Endures
Growth has brought scale. Scale has brought structure.
Yet the character of Tedia remains consistent; entrepreneurial, disciplined, and committed to doing the work the right way.
Moon and Elinora would be proud to see that, what began as a bold dream supported by sacrifice, has evolved into a trusted partner in pharmaceutical manufacturing and life sciences innovation. From laboratories to large-scale production environments, Tedia’s commitment to high-purity solvents, quality systems, and technical rigor supports the scientists and manufacturers shaping modern therapeutics.
The determination that defined its earliest days still guides it forward. Today, that spirit lives on in every refinement process, every quality standard, and every partnership built on trust. It is how Tedia continues Driving Pure Breakthroughs in pharmaceutical and life sciences manufacturing around the world.
